Job Summary As a member of the instructional team, the Substitute Teacher will be responsible for facilitating student learning and supplementing direct instruction with computer-based instruction as needed.
The Substitute Teacher uses a variety of instructional methodologies and curriculum resources to teach content and skills to students in small- or pull-out groups.
The Substitute Teacher regularly meets with students to advise and plan for students individual learning plans, providing coaching and mentoring in an advisory capacity.
The Substitute Teacher works as a part of the instructional team in order to meet the needs of all students.
Because building relationships is a critical component of this learning environment, the team works together to identify student needs that may be barriers to success.
Teachers collaborate with team members to analyze different means of meeting student needs and communicates with students, parents, and other team members about student progress and plans for next steps.
Job Responsibilities: Provide small group instruction to students enrolled in an alternative school setting; Keep student attendance; Prepare necessary lesson plans that correlate with student needs; Plan and follow daily classroom instruction activities; Work closely with teachers and other colleagues to develop and build teaching skills; Consult with other content teachers, special education teachers, parents and students, advising on strategies and activities that may be used to enhance a student's reading skills Assist in the development and implementation of individual education service plans for students; Provide essential supervision to students in their education requirements; Keeps parents, administrators, district, and community informed about the reading programs/strategies in the school; Participates in regular professional development to improve personal knowledge and skills; Administer assessments to ascertain academic needs of students enrolled in an alternative setting; Monitor academic progress of students in their coursework; Monitor student progress towards graduation; Maintain ongoing communication with parents, staff, and community as needed; Become proficient in the use of computer based instruction and software; Keep accurate documentation regarding student progress, needs, strengths, grades, observations, anecdotal records, and other related data; Maintain student records and files in a confidential manner; Manage the learning environment and coach students as an advisor and mentor; Contribute to a culture of professionalism among team members; Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by the Principal Key Relationships: Internal: School faculty and staff, Students External: School visitors, Parents Key Behavioral Competencies: Generally asks relevant and insightful questions to establish facts; Seeks to understand key decision making issues and characteristics when guided by others; Shows increasing understanding of EdisonLearning work processes and standards; Thinks to ask questions about actions required to produce expected results; Expresses interest in taking on varied projects and tasks to develop new skills in most situations; Develops and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers by being punctual, collaborative, and maintaining a pleasant work attitude; Shows that understands accepted professional conduct within the EdisonLearning environment by acting honestly and openly and responding positively to any feedback on professional conduct; Establishes appropriate and supportive relationships with students Required Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree required; Seeking appropriate teacher certification; Minimum Two (2) years of teaching experience; Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook; Evidence of working knowledge and comfort level with instructional technology preferred; Experience working with student population in some capacity preferred Benefits and other Perks: Medical, Dental, Vision Basic Life/AD&D – company paid Voluntary – Life/AD&D, Short/Long Term Disability Generous time off schedule (Holidays, Personal, Vacation, and Sick Time) Retirement Plan Student Loan Assistance Employer Paid Teladoc Mental Health support network Perks at Work discount site An Equal Opportunity Employer It is the policy of EdisonLearning, Inc.
