Summary: The Shift Supervisor will lead and develop production personnel on shift in performing operations according to sound operating principles, company policies and procedures with integrity and ethical behaviors to meet established performance goals.
This role includes oversight of the Fiberline operation comprised of bagasse processing, pulping making, boilers, evaporators, and wastewater systems.
This is a 24/7 manufacturing site with 12-hour shifts.
This role is on a 3 - month rotation of days and nights.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leads and develops team members to work together to attain department objectives and to meet established performance goals.
Conducts oneself ethically and in compliance with all company employee relations policies in all dealings with employees while upholding company values.
Maintains approachability with all employees at all levels.
Builds rapport and fosters strong working relationships.
Motivates and empowers others to study operations where cost standards are not being met, communicates the bigger picture, and encourages employees to determine causes and to apply corrective measures.
Reviews daily production schedule for the plant to plan work and personnel assignments for the shift and clearly delegates both routine and important tasks and decisions to others in the department.
Reports promptly to department managers when delays occur, estimates of the time of delay and when operations will be resumed.
Anticipates and determines causes of delays in shift operations and takes appropriate counter measures to meet schedule completion.
Coordinates with other departments such as molding, engineering, and maintenance for required repair work on shift.
Maintains and champions all safety, quality, and housekeeping policies in the department per OSHA, SQF and HACCP
Prepares required attendance/absence forms for shift or leave requests for department manager’s approval.
Conducts orientation of new hires and coordinates their development on shift.
Provides frequent informal performance feedback in addition to a formal introductory and annual performance reviews of each department employee and recommends performance increases, retraining, transfer, or termination.
Reviews output at the end of each shift and completes necessary Lab and Performance reporting.
Completes hand off to oncoming shift supervisor.
Flexibility to rotate between day and night shifts every 3 months.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; College degree preferred.
5 years’ previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment required.
Pulp and paper manufacturing experience a plus.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Working knowledge of reporting through industrial application program Ignition preferred.
Must have strong leadership and communication abilities.
Must possess excellent attention to detail, problem solving and follow-up with a strong sense of urgency.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Must have excellent time management skills.
