The City of Delray Beach has established a paid Vocational Apprenticeship Program.
The Apprenticeship Program provides practical on-the-job work experience to individuals who have an interest in learning a trade that will prepare them with skills needed to build a career and potentially qualify for future employment with the City.
The Electrician Apprentice will learn to provide electrical and mechanical work on the water treatment plant, pump stations, wells, and lift stations or on systems within city buildings, facilities, and related appurtenances, depending on departmental assignment.
Apprentice positions are for one year and will be authorized to work up to 29 hours per week.
Essential Job Duties The following duties are normal for this position.
The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.
Other duties may be required and assigned.
Learn to perform electrical and mechanical work in water treatment plant, lift stations, wells, and pump stations or city owned buildings, facilities and other related areas.
Perform preventive maintenance activities.
Maintain and repair telemetry equipment electrical equipment, HVAC, street and parking lot lighting as assigned.
Perform maintenance work as directed.
Assist with other work as directed.
Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
Minimum Qualifications HS Diploma or acceptable equivalency or some technical vocational education/training.
At least 18 years of age Must be enrolled in a vocational program or be a recent graduate of such.
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s license with a good driving record.
Some knowledge of electrical equipment, controls, telemetry used in treatment plants and lift stations or H.

C, commercial and light industrial applications.
Some knowledge of high and low voltage controls.
Ability to read plans, learn installation of electrical apparatus and install conduit systems.
Electrical and mechanical skills required.
Ability to perform manual labor as needed.
