Summary
This position is responsible for assisting and accomplishing duties/assignments within a Recreation Department division area.
Working under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position is responsible to lead, direct, supervise and assist children in group activities, educational programs, arts and crafts, individual and team sports, swimming, off-site field trips, games and special events.
This position will act as a positive role model, ensuring safe, diverse and fun activities with children in a day camp environment.
This position will safely participate in all activities on a daily basis, ensuring camper participation.
Essential Function Duties and Responsibilities

Lead and assist in the direction, supervision and organization of campers in a day camp environment.
Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, and involvement and empowerment of youth.
Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff, both, on-site at the Recreation Center, during transportation to and from field trip locations and during off-site field trip activities.
Provide basic customer service to patrons utilizing recreation facilities and programs in a pleasant and helpful manner.
Responsible for communicating in a positive and effective manner with peers, managers, patrons and the public through verbal interactions and written correspondence.
Understands and applies standard operating procedures without significant direction and monitoring of supervisors.
Provides a monitoring level of observation for the health, welfare and safety of patrons utilizing facilities and/or participating in programs.
Notifies appropriate staff person if a concern is recognized.
Learn and utilizes the phone system effectively.
Provides support and competent assistance for programs, events, and facilities as assigned.
Responsible for completing assignments and tasks after given direction.
Responsible to apply training to assignments and continually to seek out information to grow job knowledge base to better serve the community.
Understands and is flexible enough to provide a high level of job responsibility should assignments change according to the needs of the Department.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma, G.
E.
D.
or graduating High School Senior; experience in youth programs preferred
Applicants are required to attend mandatory orientation sessions, dates and times to be announced
Applicants must hold a current CPR/AED Certification or have the ability to obtain one by the first day of employment
Applicants must have the ability to work a flexible schedule
Special Qualifications/Preferences
This position requires the candidate to successfully complete pre-employment background screenings in accordance with the State Department of Health regulations governing Childcare workers, including Federal Department of Law Enforcement fingerprinting and verification of prior employment.
Valid State of Florida Driver’s License with clean driving record.
