Description:
The Summer Camp Assistant will work with children in our Summer Camp program with school aged students in grades K - 5.
The Summer Camp Assistant will be responsible for assisting with classroom supervision, executing lesson plans, and ensuring a safe learning environment for our campers.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Program Assistant and the Director of Youth Educational Programs.
This is a temporary full-time summer position.
Anticipated start date for orientation will be June 4, 2024.
Pay commensurate with experience starting at $13.
00 per hour.
Work Hours are between 7:30am - 6pm
Essential Functions
Planning:
Assist Co-Teacher to complete and maintain daily lesson plans to include the requirements of the
Quality Improvement System (QIS) standards, twice weekly STEAM lessons, skill building, self-esteem building, cultural/art projects, free learning
Work collaboratively with Project Grow team to plan the use of volunteers and AmeriCorps Members
Plan daily activities and lessons for children during summer program
Participate in all camp events and field trips, including water activities
All other duties as assigned
Implementing:
Keep classroom neat, orderly, well stocked and in compliance with Department of Health requirements
Assist Co-Teacher to implement a social emotional learning curriculum which follows Quality Improvement System (QIS) standards and includes twice weekly STEAM lessons, skill building, self-esteem building, cultural/art projects, free learning, and other activities needed and/or requested by the Director of Youth Educational Programs
Assist children with planned tasks and provide guidance as needed
Provide constant supervision of children in classroom, on playground, and on fieldtrips to ensure children’s safety
Participate in and attend community functions relating to our children and programs; and facilitate the children’s preparation for, and participation in special event performances when requested
All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
A High School Diploma or GED
Two (2) years’ experience working with children in a school or after school setting
Flexibility, patience, and excellent interpersonal skills
Must enjoy working with children
DCF, Level II Fingerprint, and Drug Screen
Preferences
Bachelor’s degree preferred
40 hour Child Care Training or Child Development Associate (CDA) or School Age Certification is desired
Working conditions
Work is performed in standard classroom environment
Work may be performed outdoors or other locations on field trips during summer program
