OVERVIEW:
Under general supervision, the Staff Accountant applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties, requiring a thorough knowledge of organizational procedures and precedents; and performs related work as required.
This position requires the ability to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative.
BUSINESS CONTRIBUTION: Staff Accountant is responsible for providing support to the staff at the campus.
Staff Accountant accomplishes this through: · Detail orientation and strong organization skills · Excellent communication and computer skills ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: · Enters all vouchers for payment.
· Prepares invoice deduction notices, as necessary.
· Answers all vendor inquiries.
· Analyzes vendor accounts and negotiates extended terms with vendors when cash is restricted.
· Prepares accounts payable checks.
· Prints all accounts payable reports and maintains all accounts payable files.
· Prepares analysis of accounts, as required.
· Assists in monthly closings.
· Reviews statements and ensures all vendor accounts remain current.
· Assists with special projects, as necessary.
· Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts and documenting business transactions.
· Performs statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, significant changes, and writes narrative reports explaining findings.
· Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports and verifying information.
· Supports timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close, including assigned journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, accruals, and overall maintenance of all operational management accounts.
· Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
· Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits.
· Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
· Prepares documentation for external auditors.
· Tracks and maintain fixed asset ledger by coordinating with Accounts Payable.
· Perform special projects and AD Hoc analyses as needed.
